ZICA
CREATIVE ARTS & LITERARY GUILD ANTHOLOGY VOLUME 1 The ZICA Creative Arts & Literary Guild, an artists and writers support group was founded in Sacramento in 1988 and meets in the home of one of the founders on the last Sunday of each month. In celebration of our twentieth year of meetings and of pulling colors, numbers and phrases as tools to help stimulate an artist or writers’ creativity the members developed their first anthology, Speak, Write, Dream, The Creative Musing of the ZICA Consortium, which was edited by Ron Barnes, a member who writes horror stories. I am pleased to announce that my folktale, Burnt Rice, is included in this collection which is available as of mid May 2008. CAPITAL

FOR LIFE, The
sixth annual Authors on the Move, a fundraiser for the Sacramento Public
Library Foundation theme for 2008 was Food for Thought.
As members of the Authors Selection Committee we and authors invited as
guests for the fundraiser were asked to submit a poem, recipe or short story to
be included in an anthology to be auctioned during the March 1, 2008, event.
These works were to be no longer than 150 words in honor of the 150th
Anniversary of the Sacramento Public Library. A limited number of the
anthologies were published and my story, Thanksgiving Homecoming about
my first Thanksgiving after a year in Europe, was accepted. OUR
BLACK FATHERS, DARK
DREAMS II, This
second of four horror suspense anthologies edited by Brandon Massey was
published in April 2006. Look for my latest horror story, The Arrangement
in Volume II. |
Savor the aroma of otherworldly flora planted in a unique patch of earth. This story much like Wild Chocolate, in Volume I gave my critique group members the “willies”. ISBN 0-7582-1232-1 LIFE’S
SPICES FROM SEASONED SISTAHS, A COLLECTION OF THE STORIES FROM MATURE
WOMEN OF COLOR This
collection was edited by Vicki Ward and made its debut on April 8,
2005. It was awarded the best anthology from the LA Black Book Expo in
June 2006. In 2006, the
anthology was the 2005 Silver Medal for the Best Essays. For Foreward
Magazine and won an Honorable Mention for Independent Publishers.
My story, Of Gumbo and Avocados is homage to my late
great aunts all of whom lived to reach the ripe old age of 90 plus.
This story is but one that hopefully will tell the story of my
great grandmother and her 14 children that will be included in a
family memoir. This collection is an anthology that one purchases to
give to women friends, regardless of ethnicity to share the joys of
common bonds. ISBN

DREAMS VOLUME I, Brandon
Massey, the author of Thunderland and Dark Corners
edited this anthology of horror and suspense in which twenty of the
best horror/ suspense African-American authors conjured the most
eerie, bedeviled and dreaded stories to be read in full sun surrounded
by friends and loved ones. I am honored that my story, Wild
Chocolate a story that scared my critique group and gave them a
new sense of my writing was selected for this anthology. It is the
story of a visit to a remote village in the Brazilian jungle and what
happens to a married couple and the power of pure love.
It will make you think whenever the odor of chocolate is in the
air. It was fun thinking of new ways to explore one’s creativity.
